PROJECT EXTENSION LEVEL 2
WHAT ARE MY INTERESTS?
Objective: At the end of this project, you will be able to read, write and speak about your personal interests and preferences on different aspects of everyday life such as music, movies, TV series, sports, and hobbies.
Task and situation:
All the foreign language students at our Universidad Nacional’s Language Center will be participating in the Language Center’s Talent Show Contest” organized by the Language Center. This context is a space for all the students to show their communicative skills regarding their personal interests and preferences on different aspects of their everyday life.
The only requirement to participate is to make a creative presentation in which the students express and show their interests regarding aspects of their everyday life such as music, sports, movies, TV series, food, places to hang out, and hobbies.
 In order to prepare your creative presentation, you should follow the following steps:
  1. Look for a classmate to work with in your project
  2. Read English information regarding your topic
  3. Create your own glossary. Choose 20 words, write the definition of each word and write your own sentence using that new word.
  4. Make up a graphic organizer as a help to organize the ideas of your project
  5. In pairs, write a 400 word narrative in which you talk about your preferences and interests (writing task)
  6. In groups, participate in an interview carried out by The Talent Show’s committee at the local UNradio station (speaking task)
7.    Make an oral presentation to the class.

WRITING TASK:
Narrative on personal preferences and interests
Task and situation:
As a requirement to participate in the “Language Center’s Talent Show Contest” you are going to write, in groups, a 400 word narrative in which you talk about your preferences and interests regarding aspects of your everyday life such as music, sports, movies, TV series, food, places to hang out, and hobbies.
Purpose: write about personal interests and preferences
To successfully develop this task you should:
- in pairs, choose an interest or preference each student would like to write about 
- read about the topic in English
- use the 20 word glossary you have made before
- use the graphic organizer you have made before
- Include relevant information about your personal interests and preferences regarding aspects of everyday life
- write a narrative on your personal interests and preferences (send it for corrections)

Criteria to evaluate this task:
 The students are able to:
20% Communication (Message is clear and coherent)
20% Vocabulary (Ideas are well presented with appropriate vocabulary)
10% Grammar (Ideas are well presented with appropriate language choices)
20% Coherence and cohesion in your written text
10% Spelling
20% Final product
SPEAKING TASK:
Interview with the Talent show’s selection committee
Task and situation:
The Talent Show’s committee has invited you to carry out an interview with them at our local UNradio station because they need to know more information about your personal interests and preferences on different aspects of everyday life such as music, movies, TV series, sports, and hobbies.
Purpose: Talk about personal interests and preferences
To successfully develop this task you should:
- use the 20 word glossary you have made before
- use the graphic organizer you have made before
- Include relevant information about your personal interests and preferences regarding aspects of everyday life
- Be prepared to speak about your personal interests and preferences

Criteria to evaluate this task:
 The students are able to:
20 %  Understand questions about their preferences and interests
20 %  Ask questions about preferences and interests
20 %  Answer questions about their personal interests and preferences regarding aspects of everyday life
20 %  Produce some structures worked in the course such as: (1) statements in past. (2) simple past, used to, would. (3) Adjectives ending in –ed and -ing.
10 % Use accurate vocabulary to speak about interests and preferences.
10 % Pronounce words correctly.
